I love this concept so much Greg. You've been training for this your whole career.

Good luck Greg! May I recommend the free support myNZTE's collection of tools and templates for businesses owners, starting with our market validation guide. As long as your SOM isn't wholely made up of nearly redundant journalists, this is going to go great! https://my.nzte.govt.nz/article/how-to-size-and-segment-your-target-market

I’ve read a few posts by people making it on Substack who seem to be having more fun.

You’ve got great hooks. If you can figure out how to pivot onto Threads, the “community” there is rabidly supportive

In a previous life I worked with APN Digital in the early 2000's. I sat in small rooms with APN management at NZ Herald. We would explain politely that they needed to move/copy their content online to the digital platform we were building. APN management would respond by yelling and screaming incoherently. I exaggerate, but thats what it felt they wanted to do, especially the magazine staff. Finally, after.months of arguing, the management of APN New Zealand mustered their courage, shelved the project and fired everyone involved. We explained it to ourselves with an analogy that drowning people will often drown their rescuers. Welcome to the lifeboat.
